How much do you save staying at home?
by Tom Feran/Plain Dealer Reporter
What do you save with a home-based vacation?
It obviously depends on how you travel. But according to AAA’s
Annual Vacation Costs Survey for 2008, the recommended travel budget
for two adults in North America is $244 per day for lodging and meals.
The survey found the average cost for lodging in North America is
$164 per night, double occupancy, based on the most recent published
rates for accommodations listed in AAA TourBook guides. For two adults
traveling and dining together AAA travel experts recommends a budget of
$80 a day for meals — not including tips or beverages — based on
dining at full-service restaurants.
Not included in the $244: gas or airfare and vacation activities.
AAA has been tracking vacation costs since 1950, when the average daily cost for meals and lodging was $13.
